THE ESSENTIALS

Getting started,
step by step.

Ledger Live is the companion application for managing assets with a Ledger hardware wallet. Follow this checklist at your own pace. Interface details can vary by app version and device.

↗

Download from the source

Visit Ledger’s official website by typing ledger.com into your browser yourself. Choose Ledger Live Desktop for your operating system and follow the instructions on that verified site. Avoid sponsored search results, unsolicited messages, third-party download portals, and links sent by strangers. Before installing, confirm the web address is spelled correctly and uses HTTPS.

▣

Open and choose your device

Launch the installed application and select the option to set up or connect a Ledger device. Follow the on-screen prompts to connect your hardware wallet using its supported cable or connection method. Confirm prompts on the device itself, not only on your computer. If the app asks you to enter your recovery phrase on your computer or phone, stop: that is not a legitimate setup step.

◇

Set up your device securely

If your device is new, initialize it using the instructions displayed on its own screen. Create a PIN directly on the device, then write down the recovery phrase exactly as shown and store it offline in a private, secure place. Never photograph it, save it in cloud storage, type it into a website, or disclose it to support staff. Anyone with the phrase can take control of your assets.

Connect and explore accounts

Complete any device authenticity or update checks presented by the official app. To view an asset, add the relevant account through the app and approve the action on your hardware wallet when prompted. Your portfolio view can help organize balances, but displayed values are estimates and can change. Review each network and address carefully before initiating a transaction.

Remember: Ledger Live is software; your Ledger hardware wallet is where private keys are secured. A desktop screen cannot replace checking important transaction details on your device.
